Me being a Roadie, was all accidental. However looking back on my life, it all kind of makes sense. Many of you are wondering why I chose to write about my early years, as they seemingly have nothing to do with me being a Roadie. Once you read about my upbringing, you will understand.
Growing up, I went to a private school until I was in 4th grade. My mom put me in private school because she was a single mom and worked until 5pm every day and they provided after school daycare. That was the primary reason that I was in the private school. Little did I know, it was a performing arts school, and had quite a history of creating child stars.
We did recitals, plays and other shows multiple of times a year. I learned to sing, tap dance and act. The singing teacher Miss Parsons was an older person (older from a 4th graders viewpoint) with grey hair died purple. She didn’t think I could sing very well and for years I never made the choir. Finally when I was in 4th grade, I made the choir (right before we moved and I went to another school). I think she did it because she knew I was leaving, but who knows.
My family (other than my mom and I) lived in Estes Park, Co. My grandfather was a painter. My Grandma worked as the billing clerk for the town hall. My Grandfather painted most of the signs around Estes Park, and many of the Christmas decorations, like the ones shown in this link: https://activerain.com/blogsview/1402786/buel-porter-s-gifts-to-estes-park-colorado . My Grandfather also hand painted many of the Coca-Cola signs along the highway between Denver and Kansas City.
The cool thing was that when my family lived in Kansas, my Grandfather worked for Walt Disney way back before there was a Mickey Mouse. My Grandfather was friends with Walt Disney and would draw the Mortimer Mouse cartoon strip for Walt Disney whenever Walt was sick or needed to take a vacation. Walt even invited my Grandfather to move out to Los Angeles with him to start up Disney Studios. My grandfather did not like California and turned him down and moved to Estes Park instead. Walt and my grandfather remained friends though. Occasionally he would come to visit, I never put two and two together though and just knew that one of my Grandfather’s friends named Walt was visiting.
